2019 - The team at Inclusion in Motion is proud to announce a partnership with the Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access (IDEA) located within the School of Architecture and Planning at the University at Buffalo. The IDEA Center is a globally recognized Center of Excellence focused on advancing equity and inclusion with a goal of creating a safe, inclusive, and empowering world for all.
Universal design (UD) is a design process that enables and empowers a diverse population by improving human performance, health and wellness, and social participation.
Instead of creating a playground that just meets code, the team is taking a design approach that goes beyond minimum accessibility compliance. Danise Levine, an Architect and Assistant Director at the Center, is leading the charge to help deliver an enhanced experience for all playground visitors by incorporating universal design strategies into every aspect of the project. That includes the site design, parking, circulation and paths of travel, wayfinding, restrooms and pavilions. Our design team also includes Kevin Connors, Architect and Principal at eco_logic STUDIO.
To facilitate Universal Design at all stages of the project, the team will be utilizing the isUD™ (innovative solutions for Universal Design). Developed by the IDEA Center, isUD™ empowers its users to eliminate barriers in public and commercial spaces and create inclusive environments for all.
